About The Gathering @ Elizabethton

Bryan and Angie Smith left Elizabethton in 2002 not knowing if they would ever return. He left to follow the path he felt God was laying out for him.  After completing a degree program at a well-respected Bible college in North Carolina, he was ready for what God would do next. “I was privileged to attend a great school that taught me much of what I needed, to do the job God was calling me to do. An even greater privilege awaited me in that my wife and I were blessed to be part of two dynamic ministries that forever changed our idea of Kingdom work.” Equipped with a vision to plant a new church in the Elizabethton-area is what brings Bryan and Angie Smith home again.

After much consideration Bryan and Angie chose the name, The Gathering @ Elizabethton for the new church. “Knowing that lasting life change happens in community, I felt this name would fit us well and was taken from a passage in Deuteronomy 31:12. Our model of ministry is quite different from most, but very effective for reaching people and developing them into fully devoted Christ followers. It has required me to re-think my methodology without compromising Scripture. I’ll be the first to say that doing things different than what has been ‘normal’ scares some people in the church. However, ‘normal’ isn’t getting it done. The ‘it’ being the Great Commission.”

The church is currently in it’s formation stage, building the ministry by starting small groups that will eventually be the nucleus of the mission-minded church.  We are seeking out like-minded individuals that really wish to make a difference for the Kingdom of God as we continue to build our team.  We need people that are ready to abandon the status quo and arm themselves for real battle; to leave this world different than the way they found it. We believe  it will fill a vacuum that exists in so many lives in Carter County. We are talking exciting worship, practical, biblically-sound messages, sermon-based small groups, leadership development for effective ministry replication, and mission-minded; having a focus on those yet to know our Savior, locally and around the world.
